Remote Learning at Newmark

Due to the Coronavirus / COVID-19, remote instruction began at Newmark effective Monday, March 16, 2020 and will remain through the end of the 2019-2020 school year. 

We await further notice from the Governor's office regarding 2020 Extended School Year (ESY).

Newmark Expectations of Remote Learning
Newmark Students have reviewed the information below in class with their teachers in preparation of moving to remote learning:
  • Students will log online for all academic subjects
  • Assignments will be given through our Microsoft Teams portal as well as in hard copy format that your child received on Friday.
  • Teaching staff will keep to your child’s regular schedule and have Live Office Hours for their classes. Please refer to your child’s schedule that was sent home.
  • NHS begins at 8:30 AM and ends at 1:30 PM after AMP Period Check in with Homeroom teacher
  • Newmark K8 School begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 1:50 PM
  • K8-PE and Art Teachers sent home activities and projects for students to do while at home as these classes are not online. Those teachers will be connecting with parents/students throughout the week for check ins.
  • Counselors will call their student s individually weekly for their session. This will be done through Microsoft teams and phone calls. Your child’s call time has been sent home.
  • Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy (for students who have that service) have provided activities for your child to do. They will hold daily office hours via Teams from 1:50 PM- 2:20 PM.

Students can login to Office 365 from home to access their school assignments and all school-related communication from their teachers.

How to access Office 365 from your home:
 
Go to web-based Office.com
  • Students can login with their school account [first initial and last name] @student.newmarkeducation.com (ex. jsmith@student.newmarkeducation.com) and school-issued password
  • If you are having issues downloading the Office App your child's Remote Learning session, we recommend using Chrome instead of Safari or Firefox. Download the  "Teams" Application from Office.com and sign-in to the App.

Teachers will focus on the following skills during remote instruction, and prepare parents and students on these areas:
 
Time Management
Newmark will continue to follow regular school schedule and provide LIVE office hours during academic instruction periods. Teachers will Post assignments each day, utilize live and recorded video/calls, engage students in using the message feature so teachers know they are online. All Related Services, Art & PE have packets given to teachers to send home with students as needed.
 
Communication
Online have students ask for help and connect to the teacher. If teachers need to call students individually, they will do so. Teachers will continue weekly parent phone calls as scheduled.
 
Study Habits
Ask students set up a workspace to complete assignments and keep to the schedule as best as possible. This space should be distraction free.
 
Motivation
Students should turn off all other technology while in class online. Teachers can schedule brain breaks halfway through each period as needed.
