K-8 Summer 2025 Reading Program
As we head into summer break, we encourage all students to continue growing as readers by engaging with books that are both enjoyable and meaningful. Summer reading is a wonderful opportunity for students to explore personal interests through high-quality literature.
Newmark K-8 2025 Summer Reading Program
This year, ALL students, regardless of ESY participation, are required to read at least one book by author Sarah Weeks from the provided K-8 reading list available on our website.
- Students attending ESY will receive their selected books in advance, and these will be available in their classrooms on the first day of ESY.
- Students who are NOT attending ESY can purchase their own book from any preferred bookstore.
Sarah Weeks is an award-winning author of more than sixty books for young readers. Her work spans early readers, picture books, chapter books, and novels. Her acclaimed young adult novel So B. It was a New York Times bestseller, earned the 2004 Parents' Choice Gold Award and was adapted into a feature film starring Alfre Woodard and Talitha Bateman. Her books have sold over three million copies and have been translated into multiple languages.
We are excited to welcome Ms. Weeks to Newmark School on Thursday, October 16, 2025, where she will lead a special workshop for all K-8 students.
In the first few weeks of the school year, students will be assigned to write a letter to Ms. Weeks, reflecting on their personal connection with the book they chose to read over the summer.
Please select books for your child's grade level for the 2025-26 ESY/School ("rising grade") and have your child bring the book on the first day of school.
Your enthusiasm and encouragement will help make this summer reading an enjoyable experience.
