  • NHS Varsity Soccer Kick Off 4th Season

The Newmark Lions Varsity Soccer team kicked off its 4th season with a "friendly match" at Chancellor Academy in Lincoln Park. Last week, the two teams played an exciting match where, despite a John E. goal, Newmark trailed 1:4 in the first half. But The new Lions' Head Coach, Tim DiBisceglie must have pressed the right buttons at halftime as and Tommy G. scored 4 goals to level the score at 5:5. However, Chancellor broke the stalemate
with only minutes to play to tie down a 6:5 narrow victory. In typical Newmark fashion, there were no heads hanging low and sportsmanship was at a premium, as the team looks forward to the 3rd Annual Newmark Soccer Invitational in November.

  • NHS Independent Practice IP - 6 Day Schedule

At Newmark High School, IP is assigned based on their 6-day schedule. Students may choose to use the weekend to complete some of their assignment.   We are sensitive to the impact of "homework"  on family and respect the value of family time.  We encourage students and parents to communicate challenges students face in completing independent practice.  Newmark also believes that the successful use of independent practice to support learning is not dependent upon the amount of time taken with homework but the degree to which it:

    • Engages students
    • Connects to the students’ individual abilities
    • Links to the work undertaken in class

  • Angst, The Movie

Last week our middle and high school students attended a viewing of Angst, Raising Awareness Around Anxiety. Angst is a 56-minute film that explores anxiety, its causes, effects and what we can do about it. The filmmakers’ goal is to have a global conversation and raise awareness around anxiety. Angst features candid interviews with kids and young adults who suffer, or have suffered, from anxiety and what they’ve learned about it. The film includes discussions with mental health experts about the causes of anxiety and its sociological effects, as well as help, resources and tools.
"Our students were prepared for the screening during their group counseling sessions the week prior to the movie, and will debrief and discuss the movie in group counseling next week, said Ms. George, Newmark Supervisor of Counseling.  "We have received positive feedback from students and staff after the screening."

Please visit angstmovie.com for more information about the movie and resources about anxiety.
