Newmark has a formal counseling curriculum that is designed to teach social thinking and pro-social behaviors. This multi-tiered counseling approach integrates the use of common languages to facilitate quick understanding of desired behaviors.

  • Teach K-8 students how to think socially and perspective taking.
  • Use of school-wide behavior modification program.
  • Adventure-based team-building activities to help generalize problem solving and decision making.
  • Small group weekly counseling sessions that focus on learning coping skills to manage emotions, conflict resolution and increase self-esteem.
  • Monthly Parent Counseling Night by phone appointment.

The Counseling Program plays an integral role in the overall social and emotional growth and development of the Newmark students.  Our ultimate goal is to provide students with the tools and skills to transition to the next phase of their life, whether it is middle school, high school or post-graduate life.  This is accomplished not only through weekly individual and group counseling, but also as a result of daily interaction and direct intervention by the counselors.
