CDC: Preventing Spread of Respiratory Viruses When Your Child Is Sick

As many of you know, the CDC recently lifted COVID-19 isolation guidelines for those who test positive for COVID-19. Instead of a strict 5-day isolation period, individuals who have COVID-19 should stay at home until symptoms have improved and are fever-free without medication for 24 hours. Individuals are also recommended to take additional precautions for the next five days such as wearing well-fitting masks, washing their hands, limiting close contact with others and improving ventilation.

Based on this change, we want to remind Newmark parents the importance of keeping your child at home if they are experiencing symptoms consistent with respiratory illness. Testing remains widely available and should be used to determine the correct treatment.  And remember to follow simple habits to protect against illness including regularly washing hands with soap and water (or using hand sanitizer with 60% alcohol when water is unavailable), as well as covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing.
